Faith in Family Life
"Successful marriages and
families are established and maintained
on principles of faith [and] prayer."
-The Family, A Proclamation to the World
Faith is defined as, "Complete confidence in something or someone." Someone can have faith in lots of different things such as faith in their spouse that they will be faithful to them always. Faith in their coworkers that they will do their job so you can do yours. Faith in your parents that they will always do what is best for you. Faith in the Savior that he will always be with you and never let you be alone in trials. The list can go on and on but today we are going to talk about having faith in your family life and believing that you can raise your children in love and righteousness and be the best parents you can be with the help of the Lord through praying, scripture study and church attendance.
"Praying together as a family and reading the scriptures together is
probably the best [thing we do to pull us toward Heavenly Father and each other.
It feels right. It feels good. I’m grateful to be able to do that.
When we kneel together and hold hands as a family, it brings the Spirit
into our home and makes the children feel safe and [teaches them]
that this is what they need to do with their families— It’s special."
-Shana
"There’s something that when as a family your hearts are pointed
together toward the same thing, and it’s God, then parenting and economics
and space and food and disagreements and hassles and joys
and celebrations and all that other stuff it works different,
it seems different, it feels different. Our family is
all oriented in the same way. Christ is king, He’s the center,
He’s what it’s all about. Our faith informs our relationships and everything about us."
-Joseph
Everyone has heard the saying "It takes a village to raise a child." All parents can agree that this statement is very true. Children are taught by those around them through actions and words. They can be good things or bad. Children are very perceptive to their surroundings and this is why it is so important to make sure that children are learning right from wrong at a young age so they can surround themselves with good people as they are growing up. Ward families can help a lot with this too. They can befriend a child and they can help raise it at church while the parents are raising it at home. Ward families are so important and can lend helping hands whenever needed.
As we remember to strive to keep the spirit with us in all our actions and deeds, we can remain close to the Savior. He will help us be the best spouses and parents we can be. We are taught all through our lives to pray and have faith in the Savior and keep the commandments. If we do these things, we will be blessed.
