The Eternal Family

"The family is central to the creator’s plan
for the eternal destiny of his children. In the premortal realm,
spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God
as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children
could obtain a physical body and gain earthly
experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately
realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life."

When Heavenly Father and Jesus created this earth, they created man and women to be eternal companions to rear their children in love and righteousness to once again, return to live with Him someday. He provided ways for Latter Day Saints to build temples where the eternal ordinances could be performed. The family is meant to be everlasting and eternal. This is why it is important for everyone to hear of the gospel and enter into the covenant. Without an eternal marriage, once we pass from this earth that bond will no longer be viable. The marriages that are not sealed in the temple will be dissolved after this life.

"To do well those things which God ordained to be the common lot
of all man-kind, is the truest greatness. To be a
successful father or a successful mother is greater than to be a
successful general or a successful statesman. One is
universal and eternal greatness, the other is ephemeral"

Personally, I would not want to leave my husband after this life ends. I love him so much that I want to be with him as long as I possibly can. I know I will feel this way about our children too. I will not want to end our relationship once this life is over. Then there wouldn't be a point to this life. Why would I work hard to better myself and my family if we are all just going to die and never see each other again? Eternal families know that their decisions on this earth matter now and they will matter in the eternities. This makes us want to be our very best, helping those around us and trying to be more Christlike.

"Frequently we perform marriages in the temple. These marriages
are properly called celestial marriages,
temple sealings, or eternal marriages. The family is
the most important relationship in this life. In reality, the bride
and groom are called to assignments in the family
from which they are never released, except by transgression.
This is the one eternal unit which can
exist in the presence of God"

We knew this life would be hard but we also knew it would be worth it. We were sent here in families so they could help us learn and grow. We were commanded to gain knowledge and love and be the most Christlike people we could. We were then promised that if we did these things and chose the right, we would be able to come back into the presents of our God and be with our families forever.
